Angelina Jolie dazzles in hot pink chiffon gown as she's honoured at opening ceremony for new Cambodia-based flick

A vision: Angelina Jolie shared a special moment with King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia after the opening ceremony of First They Killed My Father on Saturday

The 41-year-old was striking in her head-turning full-length chiffon number as she accepted the honour from the country's King.

In awe of her experience, the Hollywood A-lister graciously bowed in respect to the monarch, dressed in her backless flowing dress.

The Oscar winning actress' dress draped over her lithe frame, highlighting her narrow waist as she accepted a bouquet of flowers from his highness during the ceremony.

Accentuating her delicate features, she swept her dark locks into a chic chignon which showcased her simple diamond studs for the memorable occasion.

She's currently travelling around Cambodia with her latest memoir based drama.

Adding to her life altering trip, Angelina Jolie shared a special moment with King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia after the opening ceremony of First They Killed My Father on Saturday.

The actress - who has kept a low profile of late since filing for divorce from Brad Pitt in September - looked sensational as she took a step out of her usual muted fashion toned choices for a hot pink gown in the country's Siem Reap province.

Angelina Jolie Gets Emotional Discussing Split From Brad Pitt: ‘We Are and Forever Will Be a Family’

Angelina Jolie got emotional as she discussed her highly publicized split from husband Brad Pitt in a new BBC interview on Sunday, February 19.

While promoting her new film, First They Killed My Father, in Cambodia, the 41-year-old actress and director was asked about the headline-making incident that led to her filing for divorce from Pitt, 53, last September.

"Your film is about family and loss. I understand this is a very sensitive issue," BBC reporter Yalda Hakim began. "We know that an incident occurred which led to your separation, we also know you haven't said anything about this, but would you like to say something?"

Jolie sighed deeply before she responded. “I don’t want to say very much about [the incident] except to say that it was a very difficult time and we are a family. And we’ll always be a family,” she said, getting teary-eyed and emotional. “And we’ll get through this time and hopefully be a stronger family for it.”

“My family, we’ve all been through a difficult time,” Jolie said when asked about how she's been dealing with the stress of the split. “My focus is my children, our children, and it is — and my focus is finding this way through. And as I said, we are and forever will be a family. And so that is how I’m coping. I’m coping with finding a way through to make sure this somehow makes us stronger and closer

On Saturday, February 18, Jolie brought all six kids — Maddox, 15, Pax, 13, Zahara, 12, Shiloh, 10 and twins Vivienne and Knox, 8 — with her to meet the king of Cambodia in Siem Reap.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference after meeting with King Norodom Sihamoni, the Maleficent actress likened Cambodia to “a second home” and noted that “Maddox is happy to be back in his country.” (She adopted her eldest son in 2002.)

Asked where she would like to see herself in five years' time during the BBC interview, Jolie's expression brightened. "At that stage do I have all teenagers?" she said with a laugh. "At that stage I hope just standing."

"In five years’ time I would like to be traveling around the world visiting my children, hoping that they’re just happy and doing interesting things in, I imagine, many different parts of the world, and I’ll be supporting them," she continued. "And everything I do, I hope is that I represent something, and I represent the right things to my children and I give them the right sense of what they’re capable of, and the world as it should be seen, not through the prism of Hollywood or through a certain kind of life but really take them into the world where they have a really good sense of the come-round of people."

Jolie also hinted at that her kids have needed some extra TLC in the wake of their parents' split, with a couple of them sleeping in Mom's room. When asked what she really wants to do when she wakes up first thing in the morning, her answer was, "Get through the day."

She laughed as she said it, but added, "It's been a difficult few months. Right now I'm going through a moment where there's just, everybody's in my room — two hamsters and two dogs and two children at the moment. It's wonderful. So usually I just wake up trying to figure out who's going to get the dog out, who's gonna start the pancakes and did anybody brush their teeth."

Chance meeting with Brad Pitt helped Barry Jenkins make Moonlight

A chance meeting with Brad Pitt led to Barry Jenkins securing the backing he needed to make his Oscar nominated movie Moonlight.
Over the past decade Pitt has increasingly moved into production with his company Plan B Entertainment, backing films including Selma and 12 Years A Slave.
In 2013, Jenkins was working at Colorado’s Telluride Film Festival while struggling to finance Moonlight, a coming-of-age story based on an unproduced play by Tarell Alvin McCraney. It was there that the 37-year-old filmmaker was chosen to compere a Q&A with Pitt and 12 Years A Slave’s director Steve McQueen.
In an interview with The Guardian, Jenkins says his hosting duties allowed him to conduct the “sweetest ambush” on Pitt, after he secured an invitation to dinner with the star and Plan B executives.
“I was so damn naive I didn’t realise a company like Plan B would be interested,” he explained to the publication. “I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed.”
In September last year (16) Jenkins was attending Moonlight’s own Telluride premiere, an event he describes as being like “an out-of-body experience”.
“I didn’t believe it until I was actually up on stage introducing my own film,” he added. “I was standing in my dreams.”
The film, starring Naomie Harris, Janelle Monae and Mahershala Ali, has received rave reviews and is in the running for eight Oscars, including nods for Best Director and Best Picture.
“I did have reservations,” Jenkins admitted about taking on the project, about a gay man’s struggle to find his place in the world. “Can I, as a straight man, really tell this story fully – in the way it needs to be told? But I approached this as an ally. Tarell is very openly gay and I felt like if I preserved his voice it would at least pass the smell test.”
In addition to its multiple Oscar nominations, Moonlight also took home the Best Motion Picture – Drama prize at the Golden Globe Awards.

The Next Dress You Pack For Vacation Should Be the One Angelina Jolie's Wearing

February 19, 2017 by Marina Liao

No matter what Angelina Jolie's wearing, be it a red carpet gown or a hooded parka, she's bound to capture your attention. That's how we spotted Angelina in Cambodia, where she is promoting her new film First They Killed My Father. Surrounded by lush greenery, the star looked radiant in a silky LBD by Vanessa Seward. The three-quarter sleeve dress flowed down to her ankles while lace detailing covered up her shoulders and tattoos for a modest feel. She kept the look simple, wearing only a few bracelets and stud-like earrings.

Although this isn't the first time we've seen Angelina wearing a black dress, it's little details like the material and length that make her outfits look new every time. Plus, Angelina just has that certain je ne sais quoi, which can't be ignored. Read on to get a close-up of her dress, then shop similar options.

Angelina Jolie on Rising Populism: We Should Know Better

International Today, about 2 hours

Phnom Penh: Actress, filmmaker and activist Angelina Jolie said people should know better than to fall for the "old tricks" of populist leaders.

Jolie was speaking in Cambodia to promote her Pol Pot-era film "First They Killed My Father". Jolie was asked to comment on the dangers of rising populism during a BBC interview published on Monday.

This is an old trick and we should know better [than] to fall for it. And I see it rising, and the only thing I can do is use my voice and encourage others. And raise my children to know right and wrong and to have a broader view of the world and to embrace their diversity and other people’s, and respect others.

Actress, filmmaker and activist Angelina Jolie

"And I think that's all we can do right now, is each and every person - each one of your listeners - we all just have to be the best of ourselves," she added. "Now more than ever, we really have to rise up and find our rational center, our who-we-are and what-do-we-stand-for. And we know it. We know what's right and wrong."

Jolie didn’t mention a particular country or politician in her remarks on populism.

The Oscar-winning actress wrote an op-ed earlier this month for The New York Times criticizing President Trump's travel ban and calling on the US to respond to terrorism with facts instead of fear.

Jolie was reluctant to talk about US President Donald Trump specifically in her BBC interview, but said the American people will persevere.

"The American people are bigger than any president," she said. "I suppose I have faith in my country and in what it is founded on and the values we hold dear. I believe that many of the things that we're hearing that we feel are based on a sense of spreading fear or hate or dividing people by race or judgement is un-American.

"At this time I think what is amazing is we are seeing people around the world start to speak out for their civil liberties and rights and what they feel," she added. "In America, we are hearing people say 'this is un-American to me, this is unconstitutional to me. And this is who I am'."

Angelina Jolie casually cooks and eats spiders with her kids in Cambodia

21 February 2017, 04:41 | Myron Mathis

Angelina Jolie

Angelina smiled as she revealed she ate crickets when she first visited the country, which is the homeland of her first child, Maddox, and then "moved up to tarantulas".

Angelina Jolie's making dinner for the kids - and it's bugs!

Angelina was in Cambodia to screen her new film, First They Killed My Father, which she directed and produced.

And though it's not exactly part of the typical Western diet, Jolie comments after taking a bite of a spider leg, "It's actually really good, the flavor".

Knox disagreed, comparing the dish to dry, "flavourless chips".

The premiere at the Angkor Wat temple complex will be followed by screenings across the country, some seven months before the film is released to a global audience on Netflix.

Preparing the bugs with three of her six children, the Oscar victor said, "I think it's always been a part of the diet (here), but then I think there is a truth to the survival during a war".

Jolie also told her tale of how she learned to eat bugs. We are and forever will be a family. Many people find themselves in this situation. My whole family - we've all been through a hard time.

"As I said, we are and forever will be a family".

Sole custody of their six children was given to her following the couple's filing for divorce at the end of previous year.

Cambodians Hope Angelina Jolie’s Film Will Help Spread Awareness of a Harrowing History

The film is an adaptation of the memoir of Loung Ung, an author, which describes her traumatic early life under the Khmer Rouge between 1975 and 1979.

PHNOM PENH —
After viewing Angelina Jolie’s latest production, “First They Killed My Father”, in Siem Reap this week, Cambodians say they hope the film will encourage more people to learn about their harrowing history.

Loun Punloeu, a university student, said she hoped the film would stop history from repeating.

“The film is so good, I’m touched,” she said. “Hopefully after young people watch the film they will help develop the country for the better and avoid such events in the future.”

The film is an adaptation of the memoir of Loung Ung, an author, which describes her traumatic early life under the Khmer Rouge between 1975 and 1979.

Ung was just 5 years old when the regime took control of Phnom Penh, in April 1975, losing her father and later her mother and other relatives to the harsh conditions of its rule.

At the screening last week in Siem Reap, many broke into tears while watching the screening.

Tan So Reuy, 70, a Siem Reap resident who saw the film, said it “reflects the real situation under the Khmer Rouge regime that I experienced for three years.”

“It’s good film. And it’s valuable to the nation since it shows that Khmer people experienced numerous hardships during wartime. We divided and we argued to the point that a foreign country intervened. We suffered from the repercussions of the intervention, which left us with nothing.”

Heng Sitha, a student, said the film would spread awareness about the trauma suffered by those living under the Khmer Rouge.

“I knew that the regime was dark from what my mum and my grandma told me. I feel sorrowful for what had happened to Cambodia in the past, and I never want it to happen again,” he said.

Jolie, who has adopted a Cambodian son, said at the opening ceremony on Saturday: “I directed and aired the film in Cambodia for the first time to express my gratitude to Cambodia for giving me a new life and helping me become a mother.”

The Hollywood star, who was granted Cambodian citizenship by King Norodom Sihamoni 10 years ago, added: “This film was not made to focus on the horrors of the past, but to celebrate the resilience, kindness and talent of the Cambodian people. Most of all, this film is my way of saying thank you to Cambodia. Without Cambodia I may never have become a mother. Part of my heart is and will always be in this country.”

The film will be screened in Phnom Penh for the first time at Olympic Stadium on Tuesday and in Battambong on Wednesday. It will be available on Netflix from September.

Punloeu expects that all Cambodians will be able to see the film.

“If we screen the film internationally, more people will know more about us. After screening internationally, I hope the film can be screened again for free, so all people can watch it.”
